Kicking off the month of love I decided to take a look at the biggest problem plaguing the world. How many times have we been online looking for movies for hours and then end up playing whatever movie while you scroll through your phone bouncing between the same four apps. Here’s a list of movies, mostly from way back, that entertain me. Some of these movies are grouped, hopefully to trigger your own memories and get you creating a list that best suits you this month.

For writers and readers: My girlfriend’s boyfriends (2010)/ Flipped(2010)/ Something borrowed(2011)
There are thousands of movies that focus on writers or that are writer-centric and it just tugs the strings of your creative heart. After watching Flipped, I couldn’t wait to read the book. It’s those rare moments where the movie is exactly like the book. Something about keeping a good story as the original that heals my soul, clears my skin and waters my crops. Some movies actually express a greater love story between artists and creativity making them a magnet for the eccentric minds.
10/10 would recommend

Interracial movies: Something new(2006)/ Our family wedding(2010)
If there’s anything YouTube has taught me, it’s that if you’re confident in your mediocrity you can make money and, also, interracial couples draw attention. While it’s not a new thing, many people are interested in the mashing of cultures and finding love amidst a world that has racial conflicts. Something new is my favourite because I really adore Simon Baker. The movie came out in my The Mentalist obsession days which probably heightened my interest in the movie. Our family wedding is worth a watch but I feel non-American movies deal better with race as Hollywood plays way too much on stereotypes. The more recent interracial movies will probably be better and more evolved, realising that race is more than skin deep.
Movie series: Twilight(2008-2012)/ 50 Shades of Grey(2015-2018)/ Bridget Jones Diary(2001/4/16)
This whole list came about because of my craving of Bridget Jones Diary. Bridget is a mess, the movie is a hot pot of craziness but I loved every second of it. She was relatable, funny and cringe-worthy but she’s my girl. Not to mention Colin Firth who manages to slide in my favourite movies...wait, (introspection) are they my favourite movies because he’s in them??? This is a good time to binge watch the movies you once loved, or skipped because you were too cool to be associated with whatever negative-hype surrounding them.
Classics and classism movies: Titanic(1997)/ Pride and Prejudice(1995)

Oh look, another Colin Firth cameo. I swear it’s accidental...maybe. Whichever Pride and Prejudice you like I can accept because it’s based on a classic but you MUST watch the British 6 part series at least once, maybe twice. Jane Austen might have been a teenager when she inked this masterpiece but it is soooooooo good.
Disney movies: Aladdin(1992/4/6)/ The little mermaid(1989)
These are usually skipped when people think about romantic movies. The unhealthy relationship ideas we all habour in childhood stem from Disney movies. I am not the best advocate for Disney movies because I’m not a fan of musicals but, as a right of passage, I did endure these movies at least once. If this is up your alley, definitely get comfy one of these days and revisit them. The best part is that you don’t have to wait til your kids go to bed.
Movies starring POC (People of colour): Brown sugar(2002)/ Crazy rich Asians(2018)/ Bend it like Beckham(2002)
Brown sugar was the first movie I watched with my family while I was underage. Usually I was chased out of the room but because of someone’s oversight I sat through the movie and I loved it. It's such a good movie. I rewatched it over and over again shamelessly. The ratio of popular movies that star people of colour in relation to those that don’t is staggering. Most top ten lists do not even feature more than two movies of POC. During this month of love it’s a good time to “Netflix and Chill” to some of these different narratives.
Christian romantic movies: A walk to remember(2002)/ Fireproof(2008)
While typically, christian movies are not necessarily classified as romantic, the family oriented themes definitely pull on the heart strings and remind us what all it’s for. I won’t lie A walk to remember made me cry, it still does. If there’s any type of movie that will probably move my heart to melt, it will be religious movies.

Movies that bring out your teenage girl: Two can play that game(2001)/ Ten things I hate about you(1999)
Whether you want a movie that teleports you back to your teenage days or you want to watch adults act like a bunch of teenagers, there is no better time to quench that thirst like February. Ten things I hate about you is a movie that my mother and I watched til the DVD was scratched up and begging to be retired, I'm sure we watched it a few more times even after that. This category can also be known as the remake of the classics such as Shakespeare, or Emily Bronte. Ten things I hate about you is actually an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. Other movies to check out are Easy A(2010), She’s all that(1999), and Clueless(1995).
